— Y&SF Reviews on Monday
Hi guys! For the few of you who follow this blog, thanks for sticking around as long as you have. I treat this blog as a sideblog and I’m trying to fix that, so thanks for not unfollowing. I just wanted to take this time to make it known that I try to post about a new artist every Monday. That being said, sometimes I miss dates. Maybe it’s because I couldn’t think of who to write about, or maybe it’s because I didn’t have the time (college is a bitch). Either way, I’m working on getting better at this and if I do miss a Monday, I’ll probably just post on Friday since I don’t have classes then. During summer, I’ll have a lot more time to devote to this blog. This has been a small informative post. Thanks for reading. Kayla xx
— Nina Nesbitt
Headquarters: Edinburgh, Scotland Sounds like: Rita Ora / Jake Bugg / Passenger / Ed Sheeran / Ben Howard Why you should listen to them: She’s just like you and me, with a hell of a lot of conviction. At eighteen, Nina Nesbitt is headlining tours across the UK and working on her major label debut album while I, being two months older than her, get to sit and blog about all the great things she’s doing. It’s weird to think of someone the same age as me doing so many big things, but she definitely deserves it. This girl is deeply talented with her sweet and soulful voice, guitar and keyboard playing skills, and open and honest lyrics that make for some quality folk-pop music to get you through a long day. Nesbitt began writing short stories when she was six, eventually setting those stories to music on her keyboard. She started singing publicly in her last year of primary school at a talent show which led to entering other contests, doing acoustic nights and posting covers of Kelly Clarkson, Taylor Swift, and Ellie Goulding on YouTube while teaching herself guitar chords. She found her way into the music business after meeting Ed Sheeran after a show and asking for advice. He handed her a guitar and asked her to play something, to which she responded by playing one of her first songs, “Standing On One Leg”, and he offered her to play a show with him which led to an invitation to support him on tour. She also supported Example on his tour after he fell in love with her amazing cover of his song, “Stay Awake”. By this point, she’s been turning down record label offers left and right, wanting to develop her sound and build her fanbase on her own. Since then however, she’s found herself a home at Island Records and released several EPs, including her latest Stay Out which just dropped today! She also happens to be the cutest little thing ever which is proven true by her stream of Instagram pictures. So give her a chance and if you like her, purchase her new EP (unless you live in America where it’s not available, so just hold tight and watch her on YouTube)! Where to find them: Notable tracks: Stay Out / Boy / The Apple Tree / Skeletons / Statues / No Interest / Just Before Goodbye |
